Prof Roger Kneebone from Imperial College, London, supports LIPS

We are delighted to announce that the surgeon Professor Roger Kneebone from Imperial College, London, has agreed to be a keynote speaker and contribute to the roundtable at the first London International Piano Symposium in Feb, 2013. His approach reflects the aims of LIPS  since he is keen also to  bring together ‘clinicians, educationalists, computer scientists, psychologists, social scientists, design engineers and experts from the visual and performing arts’  to encourage ‘collaborative research at the intersections between traditional disciplinary boundaries’.

Affiliated Artist Sofya Gulyak 2012/13

LIPS  is delighted to welcome the Russian pianist Sofya Gulyak as our afilliated artist for 2012/13.   In September 2009 Sofya Gulyak was awarded the 1st prize and the Princess Mary Gold Medal of the Sixteenth Leeds International Competition – the first woman to achieve this distinction. Sofya has been praised for her ‘tremendous precision and coloration…exquisite soft playing …delicacy yet power’.

Collaboration agreed between the London International Piano Symposium and the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden, London

Cristine MacKie, President of the London International Piano Symposium, and Jeanetta Laurence (Associate Director of the Royal Ballet, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden)   have agreed to collaborate  in exploring ways in which pianists may benefit by working with a top choreographer and a dancer(s) from the Royal Ballet.
